Founder and Artistic Director- Charlie E. Parker is an artist of many mediums. Although born in Kentucky, she came here at 3 years of age, was raised here and now calls this valley her home. She is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley's Theater Program where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre and Performance Studies.
While studying there she acted professionally in many Shakespeare productions and studied The Bard in depth. She studied under such tutelage of Mel Gordon-Author, Director, PhD Professor, Peter Glazer-Playwright, Director and PhD Professor, Mark Griffith-PhD Professor and Head of Classics, Joel B. Altman-Shakespeare Scholar and PhD English Professor, Martin Berman and Deborah Sussel-Professors of Acting and A.C.T. artists and Lura Dolas-Professor of Acting and award winning theatre actress.
Her intensive studies there included such topics as Shakespeare analyses and in depth study of Shakespeare in both English and Theatre Theory, Topics in Performance Theory, Theatre History, Playwriting, Adaptation, Theatre and Dramatic Literature Theory and Practice, Production and Stage Management, Acting: Shakespearean, Naturalism, Brechtian, Stanislavsky Method, Meisner Technique to name a few.
Prior to her studies at Berkeley she studied at our very own College of the Desert under both Terry Nelson and Michelle Gaines as well as recently to keep her studies fresh, under Tod Kent. She began acting professionally over 10 years ago after graduating Palm Springs High School studying under Rosemary Mallet-Koch where she fully developed a burning passion and determination to make performing and working in the arts her life. She is also a member of the Screen Actors Guild and local associations The Desert Actor's Network and The Desert Theatre League.
As a dedicated professional she has acted in leading roles in over half a dozen Shakespeare plays, as well as other classic, modern and musical productions and been nominated for 2 Best Actress awards for her performances in Shakespeare. She has also directed several shows, including King Lear, Antony and Cleopatra and Springtime, as well as costume and set design and construction on several other productions. As a Director, Stage Manager, Costume Designer and Technical Crew head, her experience and knowledge is broad based.
As a long time valley resident she is deeply rooted here and extremely invested in the interests of the enrichment of her history, culture and future and that of her communities as well. She is also deeply rooted in the arts, having studied paiting, sculpture, writing, music, dance and more from before she could walk. She practices art in some form everyday and hopes to help others to the same.
Her passion and dedication to this project and people are sincere and immense. She is enthusiastic and hopeful to make a substantial and lasting impact on the arts, the community and all humankind. She works full time lobbying for non-profit recognition from the goverment, seeking donors and funds, planning and instructing current and future events and workshops, directing and rehearsing upcoming and continuing productions. She has made this venture her first priority and a full-time endeavor.
